LOW VOLTAGE CABLE
Single-core NA2XBY Cable is a steel-tape armoured, aluminium-conductor, XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed low-voltage power cable manufactured in accordance with IEC 60502-1 for power networks up to and including 0.6/1 kV. Under the German VDE 0276-603 designation, NA2XBY refers to a standard-type cable (N) with aluminium conductor (A), XLPE insulation (2X), steel tape armour (B) and PVC outer sheath (Y), providing enhanced mechanical protection with reduced cable weight for installations exposed to impact, crushing, vibration or rodent damage.
Single-core NA2XBY Cable is designed as a steel-tape armoured low-voltage power cable for fixed installation where additional mechanical protection is required and where reduced cable weight is preferred. It consists of an aluminium conductor, XLPE insulation, an inner PVC bedding, double non-magnetic steel-tape armour and a PVC outer sheath, allowing the cable to be installed in conditions involving mechanical stress, crushing risk or rodent exposure, such as direct burial in stony soil, in tunnels or in heavy industrial environments.
| Designation | Description |
|---|---|
| NA2XBY RE | Single-core aluminium conductor, round solid (class 1), XLPE insulated, double non-magnetic steel-tape armoured, PVC sheathed |
| NA2XBY RM | Single-core aluminium conductor, round stranded (class 2), XLPE insulated, double non-magnetic steel-tape armoured, PVC sheathed |
| NA2XBY SM | Single-core aluminium conductor, shaped stranded, XLPE insulated, double non-magnetic steel-tape armoured, PVC sheathed (large cross-sections) |
| N2XBY | Single-core copper conductor version, XLPE insulated, double non-magnetic steel-tape armoured, PVC sheathed |
| NA2XRY | Single-core round steel-wire armoured alternative, aluminium conductor, XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed |
For standard single-core NA2XBY cable, the key distinction is the combination of a single aluminium conductor with XLPE thermoset insulation, double non-magnetic steel-tape armour and a PVC outer sheath, rated at 0.6/1 kV (Um = 1.2 kV) in accordance with IEC 60502-1. The designation NA2XBY itself is defined under VDE 0276-603 in the German cable nomenclature system. Compared with copper-conductor N2XBY, NA2XBY offers significantly lower overall cable weight and reduced material cost, which is particularly valuable for armoured cables where the armour layer already adds substantial mass.
The use of non-magnetic steel tape armour complies with IEC 60502-1 Clause 12.2, which requires the armour of single-core AC cables to be non-magnetic in order to avoid eddy-current and hysteresis losses. Single-core NA2XBY is therefore suitable for both alternating-current and direct-current distribution circuits, while providing the full mechanical protection of a double-tape armoured construction.
Internationally, single-core NA2XBY is a 0.6/1 kV single-core aluminium steel-tape armoured XLPE/PVC power cable defined under IEC 60502-1, and is often cross-referenced with designations such as AL/XLPE/STA/PVC 1-core and YJLV22 1× under the Chinese GB standard.
Single-core NA2XBY Cable is manufactured for low-voltage power distribution systems with rated voltage up to and including 0.6/1 kV, in accordance with IEC 60502-1, with cable designation NA2XBY defined under VDE 0276-603. The cable is intended for power distribution circuits requiring additional mechanical protection and is suitable for fixed installation in tunnels, ducts, direct burial and industrial environments.
