N2XY YJV cable copper conductor 3 core

LOW VOLTAGE CABLE

N2XY – YJV (CU/XLPE/PVC) Multi Core

Multi core N2XY Cable is a copper-conductor, XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed low-voltage power cable manufactured in accordance with IEC 60502-1 for power networks up to and including 0.6/1 kV. Under the German VDE 0276-603 designation, N2XY refers to a standard-type cable (N) with XLPE insulation (2X) and PVC outer sheath (Y), designed for three-phase power distribution circuits in fixed installations such as industrial plants, commercial buildings and underground distribution networks.

Multi core N2XY Cable is designed as a low-voltage power cable for three-phase distribution circuits in fixed installations. It consists of three copper conductors, individually XLPE insulated and identified by colour, laid up together with non-hygroscopic fillers and covered by a PVC outer sheath. The cable can be installed on cable trays and ladders, in ducts or conduits, in masonry, or directly buried in ground without additional mechanical reinforcement.

Cable Construction

  • Conductor: Plain annealed copper, class 1 (solid) or class 2 (stranded), constructed according to IEC 60228.
  • Insulation: Extruded cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), suitable for a maximum conductor temperature of 90 °C in normal operation.
  • Core identification: By colour according to VDE 0293-308 (typical arrangement: brown / black / grey, plus green-yellow for the protective earth conductor in N2XY-J).
  • Laid-up cores: Three insulated cores cabled together with non-hygroscopic fillers to form a substantially circular cross-section.
  • Inner covering: Extruded or taped bedding over the laid-up cores, where required by construction.
  • Outer sheath: Extruded PVC applied over the assembly, providing mechanical, moisture and chemical protection.

N2XY Cable Designations

Designation Description
N2XY-J 3× Multi core copper conductor, XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed, with green-yellow protective earth conductor
N2XY-O 3× Multi core copper conductor, XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed, without protective earth conductor
N2XY 3× RE Multi core copper conductor, round solid (class 1), XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed
N2XY 3× RM Multi core copper conductor, round stranded (class 2), XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed
N2XY 3× SM Multi core copper conductor, shaped stranded, XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed (large cross-sections)
NA2XY 3× Multi core aluminium conductor version, XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed

For standard multi core N2XY cable, the key distinction is the combination of three copper phase conductors with XLPE thermoset insulation and a PVC outer sheath, rated at 0.6/1 kV (Um = 1.2 kV) in accordance with IEC 60502-1. The designation N2XY itself is defined under VDE 0276-603 in the German cable nomenclature system. Compared with single-core construction, multi core N2XY simplifies installation by routing all phase conductors in a single cable and avoids the need for non-magnetic clamping arrangements.

Multi core N2XY Cable is used in low-voltage three-phase power distribution. It is suitable for indoor switchrooms, industrial installations, substations, commercial buildings, and outdoor routes on cable trays, in ducts, or directly buried in ground where no significant mechanical hazard is expected.

Typical Applications

  • Three-phase low-voltage power distribution networks up to 0.6/1 kV
  • Feeders between transformers, switchgear and main distribution boards
  • Power supply for industrial plants, factories and process equipment
  • Cable routing in trays, ladders, ducts, conduits and indoor cable channels
  • Direct burial in ground where mechanical protection is not required
  • Commercial, residential and infrastructure power distribution projects

Internationally, multi core N2XY is a 0.6/1 kV multi core XLPE/PVC power cable defined under IEC 60502-1, and is often cross-referenced with designations such as CU/XLPE/PVC 3-core and YJV 3× under the Chinese GB standard.

Multi core N2XY Cable is manufactured for low-voltage three-phase power distribution systems with rated voltage up to and including 0.6/1 kV, in accordance with IEC 60502-1, with cable designation N2XY defined under VDE 0276-603. The cable is intended for alternating current power distribution circuits and is suitable for fixed installation indoors, on cable trays and ladders, in ducts or conduits, and directly buried in ground.
