Aluminum Conductor Aluminum Alloy Reinforced (ACAR) is formed by wrapping concentrically stranded aluminum wires around a high-strength Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon (Al-Mg-Si) alloy core.
It is used as a bare overhead cable for power transmission and for primary and secondary distribution. A good strength-to-weight ratio makes it a great choice for line designs where both strength and ampacity are top priorities. When compared by weight, it provides more strength and can carry more current than ACSR.
The product is manufactured in compliance with several key international standards, which include:
- IEC 61089 Round Wire Concentric Lay Overhead Electrical Stranded Conductors
- ASTM B 524 Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum Conductors, Aluminum-Alloy Reinforced (ACAR, 1350/6201)
- GB/T 1179 Round Wire Concentric Lay Overhead Electrical Stranded Conductors
