Medium Voltage Cable

Medium voltage cables are essential components for primary power distribution networks. A reliable power grid depends on high-quality cables to transfer electricity efficiently from substations to local distribution points. These cables are built for stable and dependable performance in various settings, including commercial, residential, and industrial areas. You will find them installed in many applications, whether in conduit pipes, indoor tunnels, or buried directly underground, making them a versatile solution for power plants and industrial facilities.

Our medium voltage cables are engineered for excellent electrical and mechanical performance. The conductors are made from high-conductivity aluminum or copper, formed into compacted or compressed strands to ensure a reliable connection. Insulation is a critical component, and we use cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or tree retardant cross-linked polyethylene (TRXLPE) for its superior insulating properties and ability to minimize energy loss. An outer sheath of Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or Polyolefin (PO) protects the cable from sunlight, oil, and abrasion.

ZD Cable offers a comprehensive range of products to meet diverse project needs. Unarmored cables like the N2XSY and NA2XSY series are ideal for general distribution networks. For applications requiring enhanced durability against external forces, armored cables provide an excellent solution. Our product line includes options such as N2XSEBY cables, which feature steel tape armoring, and NA2XSRY cables, which utilize steel or aluminum wire armoring for significant mechanical protection. We also manufacture specialized cables like the RHZ1 series, which feature low smoke zero halogen (LSOH) polyolefin sheaths for use in environments where fire safety is a major concern.

All our medium voltage cables are manufactured to meet and exceed rigorous international standards, ensuring safety and reliability. Key standards include:

  • IEC 60502-2: A primary international standard for power cables with extruded insulation for rated voltages from 6kV up to 30kV.
  • UNE HD 620 S3: A European standard for distribution cables with extruded insulation.
  • NFC 33-226: A French standard for insulated cables used in energy distribution networks.
  • IEC 60228: The international standard specifying conductors for insulated cables.
  • ASTM Standards: Including ASTM B231, which specify requirements for copper and aluminum conductors.
