PIESA 1062

PIESA 1062 defines requirements for bare concentric-lay-stranded conductors made from high-strength aluminum-alloy wires, engineered for extreme environmental resilience and high-voltage power transmission in tropical climates.

Technical Specifications

  • Conductor Construction:
    • Concentric-lay-stranded 6xxx-series aluminum-alloy wires
    • Thermally stabilized core: Aluminum-clad steel or composite
  • Commercial Designations:
    • PAL-55: Standard Strength (55% IACS conductivity)
    • PAL-65: High Strength (50% IACS conductivity)
    • PAL-80X: Ultra-High Strength (45% IACS conductivity)
  • Pre-Installation Requirement: Mechanical/electrical tests conducted on wires before stranding

Core Requirements

  • Material Composition:
    • Primary alloy: AA6201-T81 (PAL-55/65) or AA8030-H19 (PAL-80X)
    • Minimum aluminum content: 97.5%
  • Environmental Durability:
    • Salt spray resistance: ≥1,000 hours (ASTM B117)
    • UV stability: ≤15% tensile loss after 3,000 hrs exposure
  • Mechanical Performance:
    • Tensile strength: 255-350 MPa (grade-dependent)
    • Galloping resistance: ≤0.5% permanent deformation after 5,000 cycles
  • Electrical Validation:
    • DC resistance tolerance: ±2% at 20°C
    • Corona inception voltage: ≥1.2 x operating voltage

Where It’s Used

  • Typhoon-Prone Grids: Coastal transmission in Southeast Asia
  • Mountainous Transmission: High-altitude corridors with ice loads
  • Volcanic Regions: Sulfur-corrosion resistant installations (e.g., Philippines/Indonesia)
  • River Crossings: Flood-submerged power lines
  • Renewable Energy Hubs: Solar/wind collector systems in high-salinity zones
