The official Kenya Standard specifying design, material, and performance requirements for 600/1000 V PVC-insulated single-phase concentric cables with copper or aluminium conductors, for use in electricity supply and distribution networks.
Cables manufactured under this standard are designed for use on earthed neutral distribution systems at nominal voltages up to 1,000 V between phases and 600 V to earth. They are widely used for last-mile power distribution and service entrance connections in Kenya, suitable for both underground installation and general wiring applications in wet or dry environments.
Cables conforming to KS 04-1022 feature a concentric construction — a stranded central phase conductor is surrounded by an evenly distributed concentric neutral layer, providing both the return current path and mechanical protection.
Class 2 circular stranded annealed copper or aluminium (per KS IEC 60228). Left-hand direction of lay.
Red PVC compound Type TI 1, applied by extrusion. Spark-tested at 6 kV a.c. (4–16 mm²) or 10 kV a.c. (25–35 mm²).
Plain annealed copper or aluminium wires, right-hand lay. Lay ratio: 8× to 16× the mean outer diameter.
Black PVC compound, spark-tested. Embossed with voltage rating, standard number, manufacturer ID, and conductor size.

KS 04-1022 compliance is mandatory for cables sold and installed in Kenya under the Kenya Standards Order. All cables supplied to Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) procurement specifications are required to conform to this standard.
