GB/T 12527

Standard Overview

GB/T 12527 is China’s national technical standard for aerial insulated cables used in low-voltage overhead power distribution networks.

Its full title is Aerial Insulated Cables for Rated Voltage up to 1kV. The current version is GB/T 12527-2008. It was developed by the SAC/TC 213 (National Technical Committee on Electric Cables and Accessories) and officially published by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC).

Technical Specifications

GB/T 12527 provides technical rules for insulated cables designed for overhead installation in power distribution systems. It covers single-core and multi-core cables with rated voltages ≤1 kV AC (Um=1.2 kV).

Core Requirements

  • Conductor: Specifies materials (hard-drawn aluminum, copper, or aluminum alloy), structure (solid/stranded), and performance (e.g., DC resistance).
  • Insulation: Mandates materials (XLPE, HDPE, or weather-resistant PVC), thickness, and key properties (electrical strength, UV/weather resistance).
  • Construction: Defines cable layering, marking, and dimensional tolerances.
  • Testing: Outlines tests for electrical performance (voltage withstand, insulation resistance), mechanical properties (flexibility, impact resistance), and environmental durability (thermal aging, stress cracking).

Key Features

  • Weather Resistance: Insulation materials must withstand UV radiation, extreme temperatures (-40°C to +70°C), and humidity.
  • Safety Compliance: Strict electrical insulation requirements prevent leakage and short circuits.
  • Mechanical Robustness: Cables pass flexibility, impact, and stripping tests to ensure durability in dynamic outdoor environments.
  • Corrosion Protection: Aluminum/copper conductors resist oxidation; polymer insulation blocks moisture and pollutants.

Where It’s Used

  • Urban/rural overhead distribution lines (e.g., transformer-to-consumer connections).
  • Renewable energy grid integrations (solar/wind farm collector systems).
  • Building service entrance lines (overhead connections from utility poles to buildings).
  • Coastal or industrial areas requiring enhanced corrosion/UV resistance.
